In December l was invited to attend a 3-day travel professionals’ conference in Venice, sponsored by 150 fine hotels and villas all over Italy.

Invitees were accommodated in various hotels around Venice for 3 nights during the event, and l was fortunate to stay at the boutique Hotel Palazzo Stern, facing the Grand Canal.

For years, I have been charmed by this small hotel as l passed it by from the water. I was attracted to its unusual “Moorish” architecture and its sunny outdoor terrace right in front. Here guests can enjoy a breakfast, snack, an aperitivo at the end of the day, as twilight casts its rosy glow on the canal.

Since I had never been inside the hotel l was unprepared for how beautiful it is. Filled with the Stern family’s collection of ancient art and artifacts from far away places – statues, mosaics, carved columns climbing up the staircase in the intimate lobby – I felt l had stepped into a cabinet of curiosities!

My room and bathroom were lovely. The service was thoughtful and gracious. Breakfast was fabulous; cooked to order (scrambled eggs perfectly soft, the way l asked for them, a generous fresh fruit bowl, yogurt, crisp warm croissants and more😋)
With only 27 guest rooms, (at half the price of the big hotels on the Grand Canal) Palazzo Stern is perfect for our small group of 8-10 guests.
It’s like an art-filled house museum; staying here will add extra delight to our whole experience of Venice Art Biennale 2026.
The dates:
May 31 – June 7, 2026
A full week to explore works of contemporary art by artists representing nearly 75 countries from all over the world.

Plus special excursions to Venetian hidden gems and unique sites in the lagoons, including a boat ride on a traditional “Bragozzo” to visit St. Erasmo, the garden island of Venice.

The Palazzo Stern is in a perfect location near the Peggy Guggenheim Museum,

the pedestrian Academia Bridge,

and next door to the Ca’ Rezzonico museum.

P.S. There is a vaporetto water taxi stop right in front of the hotel!

And this!😋Need I say more?
